That Time I Painted A Cooler

So, in Greek Life Land, when you go to a fraternity's out of town formal, you paint your date a cooler.

Then you fill said beautifully painted cooler with all the alcohol their fraternal heart could desire.

Plus some for yourself.

Then you take this cooler to the beach where the sand beats up on it and every two seconds you yell at someone to watch out for your cooler.

And your artwork is slowly destroyed.

And it breaks your heart a little bit.

All that to say that back in October, I went to Delta Sigma Phi's formal.

And so, like a good date, I painted a cooler.

And filled it with alcohol.

And watched it get destroyed.

Around the top it says:

Here's to a good life and a merry one.

A Zeta date and a fun one.

So I kinda got sick of blogging for a while.

But then I missed it.

And then I really missed it.

And then I sat down and said:

Self, you should blog again.

So here I am.

In all my diet coke loving glory.

But I'm going to blog differently now.

I'm going to be honest.

I've left out sad parts of my life here a lot.

And I'm not going to do that anymore.

Thoughts on Waitressing

I work in a restaurant at Stone Mountain Park.

And most days I love my job.

I work in a restaurant that lets employees play.

And laugh.

And embrace that we are individuals.

Managers reward your strengths and encourage you.

It is a truly great job.

The first summer I worked at SMP was rough though.

When I didn't get 18% tips I was sure I had done something wrong.

When people were mean I would go back into the kitchen and sass about them.

I didn't love strangers well that first summer.

But then my heart was softened towards strangers by this statement:

'Treat every person you meet as though they are the most important person in the room.

After all, that's how God sees them.'

When I have a bad day at work.

When tables are mean.

When I go hide in the cooler at work and cry.

When it feels like I can't breathe because it's all just so much.

I step back for a moment and remind myself that Jesus calls me to love people well.

Not just people I like or people I know.

The people at my tables may never know it,

but I love them well because Jesus loves me.

It's my reaction to the love my Savior feels for me.

When I look at it that way the tips don't matter.

Smiling even though I've been standing for eight hours is easier.

And suddenly instead of work draining me, it fills me up.

19 Glorious Months

Leap of Faith

Today Jesus did something amazing for me.

And I know He did it because I listened to Him.

I'm taking a class right now, so I'm down in middle GA near all my high school friends.

And I'd been promising one of my high schoolers that we could have a pool day.

So Monday we made plans to have a pool day today.

Now let me just back up -- the school I'm a young life leader at is 35 - 40 minutes away from where I live when I'm in Milledgeville. So when I made plans with my 14-year-old friend to have a pool day that meant I was driving to get her, back to my apartment, taking her home, and then coming back to Milledgeville again. In other words 160 minutes of driving to hang out with her.

That's a LOT of gas for a poor college student.

On Monday when we made these plans I already didn't have the gas to do this.

But I knew in my heart I needed to have this pool day with her.

On Tuesday she text me about how excited she was.

So there was no way I was going to cancel.

When I got in my car this morning to drive to get her I had 82 miles to empty.

I started driving anyways.

God, please make this work. Make sure I get home.

I get to my high schooler's house and ask if we could go somewhere closer to her for the pool.

She picks a place that's still 20 minutes away.

God, I'm trusting you.

I drove to the pool.

We had a great day. Filled with loving words, playful jokes, and good conversations.

I would have pushed the car the whole way home if I'd had.

When I pulled back into her driveway to drop my friend off I had 15 miles to empty.

Ummm, God? Am I going to make it home? Please help me. I know You have a plan. I need You to show up.

I turned the car off and got out to hug goodbye.

When I turned my car back on the tank reader said I had 40 miles to empty.

Talk about God coming through when you need it most!

God doesn't always work in ways this obvious.

But isn't it so great when He does?

I listened and He was there for me, because I had faith that He wouldn't let me down.

TV Boyfrann Has A Girlfrann?

I loved him on LOST before he died and what not.

The instant he showed up at the end of the pilot of Vampire Diaries, I was hooked.

He's too good looking for words.

okay, so I love Ian.

But that's not the point.

Royal Wedding Recap

Hope everyone has had a chance to watch the royal wedding.

As TLC put it:

'all eyes of the world were on London today as the girl-next-door got her fairy tale ending'

It makes me so happy.

Kate looked so beautiful.

The two are obviously SO in love with each other.

It's so sweet.

I love that William had trouble getting the ring on Kate's finger

It reminded the world that they're real people

I loved the trees inside the abbey.

I love the queen.

And her yellow dress.

And that when they sang 'God Save the Queen',

she didn't sing.

It would be strange to sing about God saving yourself I guess.

The balcony kiss was probably my favorite moment.

They're just perfect together.

And in love.

And happy.

Plus that girl on the left looks so thrilled to be there.

I also love that they still say:

'for richer for poorer'

He's the prince, I'm pretty sure it's for richer.

It has been glorious.

Rooms and Sweet Baby Little did Greek Sing with me.

Rooms is a lifesaver.

Sorry I'm not sorry we're not scary butch girls.

But we are tug champs two years in a row.

So while I technically just had spring break,

my spring break is coming in 45 days.

In 45 days, I will be on a boat with the rooms and two of our dear friends.

As you know,

I love America.

So when we wanted to have a themed young life club,

I was all too eager for it to be AMERICA themed!

And since I was giving the young life talk, everyone agreed to use my theme.

My shirt says I heart USA (and inside the heart is our great country!)

There was so much patriotism.

It warmed my heart.

We even said the pledge of allegiance.

These are my fellow patriots.

If only there had been sparkles and fireworks.

The weather was too cold and rainy for that.

Just wait until 4th of July my friends.

It's gonna be even more ridiculously bored line red neck.

Why I Love My Roomie

So Cadi and I are in our room hanging out,

chatting it up and not being productive when I read that:

'your pain threshold is highest between 3 and 5 pm'

So I tell Cadi. Her response?

'So that means I could punch you right now, and it would hurt less than if I did it in 20 minutes?'

{it was 4:40}

Yes, it does mean that. But I'm pretty sure I would still be pretty angry so let's not test it and find out.

A Weekend Away With People I Love

My yl team took a retreat this weekend.

We bonded.

We laughed.

We cried.

We loved each other.

We praised God for putting these 10 random people together.

We snuggled.

We cooked.

We played music and sang songs.

It was a perfect weekend,

with 10 people in a lake house.

There was no tv and no internet,

and I didn't need it.

Just think if we spent our lives like that more often.

Just quality time with those we love.

How much better would we know them?

In Love...

I'm in love.

So in love I can't contain it.

So in love I doodle my name with his last name in class.

So in love I sing love songs loudly in the car by myself.

So in love it hurts sometimes.

So in love I get scared.

So in love I don't know what to do with myself.

So in love I miss him the second he walks out the door.

But I'm human.

And I can be sassy

And mean

And say really hurtful things.

And neglect my love.

But the love of my life loves Jesus

and reminds me almost daily how easily forgiveness comes.

It is one of the best parts of our relationship,

how real forgiveness has become.

Tyler doesn't have to forgive when I am awful to him,

but he does.

Always.

It's not like when I was a child and my mama would forgive me,

she was my mother and I always knew she would.

This is the kind of forgiveness I'm sure I don't deserve,

and Tyler gives it freely.

It truly is a beautiful picture of the love God has for me.

It has made me appreciate this forgiveness so much more.

Because there is no way I deserve it,

but God gives it freely every day of my life,

because we love each other.

The Weekend: Homecoming Edition

Sunday was 'new leader commissioning'

I spent my actual Valentine's Day hanging out with high schoolers.

which isn't as lame as it sounds.

it was actually exactly where I wanted to be.

There were tutus.

There was love.

High schoolers got to hear about the greatest love of all,

on Valentine's Day.

What could be better?

It wasn't really romantic.

There wasn't any chocolate.

Or red roses.

Or a big movie kiss.

But it was the best Valentine's Day ever.

Young Life Camp

Three years ago,

my young life leader took me to camp.

and my life was changed forever.

I heard about Jesus in a way that was real and relevant to my life.

That God wasn't just this list of rules to follow,

but someone who cared more for me than I could ever know.

This weekend,

I took campers to that same camp.

Where they played silly games,

and threw flour bombs,

and sang loud songs,

and knew that they were loved by their leaders,

and heard the greatest love story of all time.

God was made relevant for high schoolers this weekend.

was at camp this weekend with her own campers.

Gone Camping

I fell in love with the blue color, and the one different nail.

But then I chickened out at the last second and got all my nails painted blue.

My iPhone, which has a giant crack in the screen because it took a tumble

(my hands would freeze to death without it to put on my diet coke at 8 am)

Meet My: Wonderful Roomie

My freshman year I had the worst room mate ever.

She stole from me.

She lied about stealing from me.

She was dating a boy who she let sleep in my bed in our dorm room.

She was just not a nice person to live with.

Luckily, since then I have been blessed with two WONDERFUL room mates at the ZTA house.

They have both been super tall,

which means that we don't steal clothes and shoes from each other.

They are also two of my most dear friends.

has recently joined the blogy-blog world.

AND we just did a vlog post together!

This is our second year being in the ZTA house together.

She makes me be cleaner.

She makes me study before I watch The Vampire Diaries and Grey's Anatomy on Thursday nights.

She is a great example of Christ to me.

She goes on adventures with me.

She does abs and zumba with me on Thursdays

{after I study, but before Grey's/Vampire Diaries}

And I am going to miss her very much when she graduates in May.

But I still have another WONDERFUL semester ahead with her as my roomie.

Coolers are Cool

I'm painting a cooler for little brother for spring break.

In preparation for this task I have been creeping on every painted cooler I can find.

These are just a few of the beauties I have found:

this is my favorite -- I saw another one that had the monogram on one side and the greek letters on the other.

Now if I could just narrow down what I'm gonna put on little brother's cooler.

Martha and Valentine's Plan

Basically, best present ever.

The Febuary issue arrived yesterday.

It's got all kinds of great V-Day ideas.

I have a love for purses like no other.

I got two new coach one's at the outlet over my break, and I still want more purses.

But I tell my rooms I'm gonna save up for a Longchamp and she tells me I should check ebay.

I had never used ebay before in my life.

Sadly, now I'm addicted.

I'm in a bidding war.

I started wearing makeup at 14.

In that 6 year time span there have been lots of things I hated

And a couple things I love.

This is the makeup I have come to swear by.

Seriously, it's awesome.

And it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.

I like my appendages too much for that.

FACE

1. Cover Girl Aqua Smoothers Tinted Moisturizer

slather this bad boy on my face and run some pressed powered over it with a big round blush brush and I am good to go.

It gives super light coverage and has SPF 15 in it.

Us red heads need that daily SPF

2. Rimmel London Lasting Finish Foundation

I use this a lot when I'm going out

or if I know there will be lots of pictures taken

It just gives more coverage

AND it really does last 16 hours.

It doesn't feel super heavy on my face though, which is why I like it so much.

EYES

1. Cover Girl Eye Enhancers 4 Packs

I have a TON of these.

They sit really well on my eyelids

AND they blend super well to make things like 'smokey eyes' or whatever.

Country Woods is a great basic day color set.

2. Revlon Grow Luscious by Fabulash

After years and years of hating every mascara I would buy,

and being tricked into buying a new one every time I saw an ad in a magazine or on TV

I have finally found the BEST mascara ever.

This mascara doesn't make my lashes clump together

It separates them, and they stay separated

It makes my lashes look longer

And apparently it makes them healthier too.

I highly recommend this

1. Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick

I haven't bought a color of this I didn't like yet.

Plus, it's so moisturizing that it's like putting on chapstick.

But with a very pretty color.

I went a little Christmas Crazy yesterday.

The Wal*Mart just made it too easy.

I bought garland,

and silver shatter-proof balls

{it's a good thing they're shatter-proof, I dropped 3 of them already}

and Christmas flowers

and stockings that are hung on the door, because we don't have a fireplace in our room

and Christmas candy

and things to make chocolate covered pretzels

and peppermint bark!

{srrrsly though, it's in the high fifties}

these t-shirts go great with leggings and my fuggs

it's easy to throw on and walk out the door

{don't worry mama, i'm white so my booty isn't big and is always covered}

I don't care if you don't think leggings are pants

I'm a crafting machine.

I found an old cabinet in my house.

It was in my nursery back in 1990.

When white furniture was all the rage apparently.

I decided it would make a great bedside table.

...just not in white...

So I bought this really awesome spray paint.

And went to work.

After I sprayed it all teal,

I realized that my lamp is also teal.

And it just looked silly.

So I bought more of the paper that I'm covering a "J" and a "C" with.

Glued it down.

Modge Podged away.

And TA-DA!!!

I've also made some pretty sweet headbands.

Tyler took me to Lane Southern Orchard this weekend.

Apparently when you are from middle Georgia it is a place you go to a lot.

But not in the ATL. We have Zoo Atlanta and World of Coca-Cola thank you very much!

Like legit, strawberries. And then got to take them home and eat them!

We went inside to this little cafe.

I have to make choices about what luxuries to have

Somehow this year, buying name brand toilet paper was the luxury I gave up.

I do not like having given up this luxury.

Basically, it sucks.

But when it comes down to buying nice toilet paper,

or feeding my excessive diet coke addiction.

I am going to say 'sorry bum' but Jenn needs her diet coke.

I miss the Cottonelle puppy.

That puppy is so gosh darn cute that I just want the toilet paper.

Maybe there will be a free puppy with purchase.

But I wouldn't know.

I spend my time in Milly Vegas suffering with Kroger Brand Value TP.

Which does not even try to look like it might be cute and classy.

No bears.

No puppy.

No women quilting.

Just TP.

However, right now I am home.

And I am happy.

Because there is expensive toilet paper here.

DR Recap - Part VI - VIII

The last day I was in "The DR" we got to stay at a hotel near the airport.

We got to spend the day at the beach.

It was amazing.

After spending a week working for the Lord,

a day of rest at a beautiful beach was much needed.

I went cliff diving.

We got up, and went to a Dominican Church.

Day 1 = Travel Day

It was rough.

We had to be at the air port at 6:00 am

We did a lot of waiting.

There was waiting in ATL

Then in Miami

Then we got to the DR and there was waiting there too.

The bus to the camp was an hour late.

It was hot and muggy

And I loved it.

Because after all the waiting,

I got to see this beautiful country,

filled with so much green.

And today, I feel like being a hater.

Lady Doctor

Yes, you read that correctly.

Because here at Jenn with 2 'N's, nothing is off limits.

I had managed to stay out of my mother's

'lady-doctor-radar' f

or a whole year and a half longer than I should have.

And then my little sister decided she had to complain about her stupid cramps.

Then my evil mother realized I had not been to see the Lady Doctor.

And she tricked me into going.

Today when I was sitting in the waiting room,

all these women were looking at me,

as though I was pregnant.

They kept looking at me,

then at my left hand,

which is ringless.

And totally judging me.

It was too much fun,

I picked up a parenting magazine and started flipping through it.

More judgmental looks.

Then my mama called to check on me,

which just made them even more sure that I must be a pregnant little high schooler,

since I'm so short, people always think I'm younger than I am.

The Lady Doctor wasn't so bad after all.

Jasie {my bestie} came to play tonight,

and we spent almost an hour in the Wal*Mart searching for lipsticks.

We finally found this one:

yes, we bought Barbie Pink lipstick.

and we love it.

I love it almost as much as I love diet coke.

And defiantly more than I love my super-cheap super-ripped-up black tights

they were fine when I put them on this morning.

Jasie is such a good bestie

that she even helped me work on my super-awesome necklace I'm making

Goodbye 2009 -- Hello 2010

Blogger Friends,

you missed the first almost 4 months of my life in 2009.

So for the first time ever:

January - April of 2009

(plus a recap of the rest of the year)

January

I finished the Twilight Series for the first time.

It was really intense.

I even read Breaking Dawn aloud to a friend of mine,

because I wanted to be able to discuss the books with someone.

true story.

February

Greek Week occurred in the freezing cold.

It rained.

We all got sick.

And we told ourselves:

"It's okay ladies, Zetas are still the prettiest girls. We're winners at that."

...turns out Zeta Ladies are not the most athletic...

March

IT SNOWED IN GEORGIA!!!

Sadly, it didn't really stick at school,

so while the rest of the state had a few snow days,

I was headed to classes.

(isn't it pretty?!)

April

I finally made it to Athens to visit my bestie, Jasie.

It was my first time in Athens,

So I made sure to get a picture with the UGA sign.

I'm not even a UGA fan

This is also when the baby chickens were bought to live in p-hurst.

May

Sarah and I got the church all decorated for Vacation Bible School

This pretty much entailed us standing on tables and almost dying to hang things from the ceiling

And then playing in our decorations

June

I turned 19

and we learned that it is the most boring birthday ever,

after a very long line of exciting birthdays.

Nothing cool happens when you turn 19.

You just feel old-ish.

I also made my first attempt at making a cake from scratch.

The cake mix over flowed in the first pan, so I had to take it out,

HALF WAY THROUGH BAKING

and put some of it into a second pan

after it made a huge mess in my oven

July

After feeling left out that the mama and the baby sister got tatted up,

I went and got a tattoo.

It hurt, a lot.

But it gave me a couple more awesome points.

"...I'm starting a new house and it's called Awesome.."

(anyone with me?)

August

RECRUITMENT ENDED,

and I had never been happier.

We also got 59 new Zeta Babies.

September

The not so mysterious ticking noise plagued the Zeta House.

I thought I was going to go insane.

It was not fun.

I did not enjoy it.

Luckily it got fixed.

AFTER TWO WEEKS OF TICKING

October

I braved the mono.

I went to not one,

not two,

but three Halloween parties in four days.

I saw SAW VI

and I refused to miss the midnight showing of Rocky Horror.

The Mono was not very happy with me.

November

Sarah and I were matchy-matchy at lunch.

It was too cute.

And pretty much bomb [dot] com

I hadn't seen her in FOREVSS

{fore-eh-vss}

and had missed her very much

oh, and I started dating someone.

December

I announced to ya'll that I had a boyfriend.

And you were all wicked jealous.

Because Tyler = The Hotness

And that's pretty much my year.

Yes, it was awesome.

which gave me passes to Stone Mountain.

So I took Tyler.

Tyler looked very handsome.

I went to the top of the mountain for the first time.

We saw the Polar Express in 4-D.

We stood under this.

My friend Megan said something to me last night,

and I've realized how right she is.

We were talking about my wonderful new boyfriend,

the fact that I'm an official YoungLife leader,

and other odds and ends of my life.

And all of a sudden she goes:

"your life is just about perfect"

And you know what?

It is.

I may not have it all together.

I may not have made an "A" in my first ever accounting class.

I might like to wear colored tights

even though everyone in the Zeta house hates them.

I may like diet coke way more than could ever be good for me.

I might need to work out more.

But I absolutely love my life.

I love my colored tights.

I reread books.

I knit. A lot.

I have a snuggie, and I use it.

I would rather stay in and watch Elf with my boyfriend then go out.

I have big curly red hair, that is a bit ridiculous.

I laugh with my whole body.

I make weird faces when I take pictures.

And all of that is okay.

Because I am so stinkin' happy.

I am loved by my Heavenly Father,

by my family,

and by my friends.

What else could I need?
